This form can be used to report an incident, safety concern, inappropriate behaviour, complaint or other feedback relating to JT Dance Academy. Our policies are published in full further down this page.

Our policies

Code of Conduct

At JT Dance Academy, we are committed to providing a safe, inclusive, respectful and inspiring environment for all students, teachers, staff and guests. This Code of Conduct outlines the standards of behaviour expected from all individuals participating in any JT Dance Academy class, event, rehearsal or activity.

1. Respect and inclusion

  • Treat all individuals with dignity, courtesy and respect, regardless of age, gender, race, culture, sexual orientation, ability or background.
  • Support an inclusive environment free from discrimination, harassment, bullying, intimidation or exclusionary behaviour.
  • Respect differences in dance experience, learning styles and physical ability.

2. Professionalism and integrity

  • Arrive on time, dressed appropriately, and ready to participate fully in classes and rehearsals.
  • Follow instructions from instructors and staff in a cooperative and constructive manner.
  • Avoid disruptive or disrespectful behaviour that impacts the learning or safety of others.
  • Honour commitments to performances, rehearsals and events by communicating promptly if unable to attend.

3. Communication and feedback

  • Address concerns respectfully and through the appropriate channels (e.g. speaking directly with the Director or via a written complaint).
  • Provide and receive feedback in a constructive, courteous manner.
  • Avoid gossip, inflammatory comments or inappropriate use of social media involving JT Dance Academy or its members.

4. Safety and responsibility

  • Prioritise safety by following instructor guidance and using safe dance practices.
  • Inform instructors of any injuries, illnesses or limitations that may impact participation.
  • Respect studio property and equipment; leave shared spaces clean and tidy after use.

5. Performances and representation

  • Represent JT Dance Academy with pride and professionalism during performances, competitions and public events.
  • Participate in choreography and costume decisions respectfully, understanding that final creative direction rests with the instructor or director.
  • Perform only when you feel prepared and comfortable; participation in performances is always voluntary unless explicitly agreed to as part of a course or program.

6. Zero tolerance for misconduct

JT Dance Academy maintains a zero-tolerance policy for:

  • Harassment (including sexual, verbal and physical)
  • Bullying or exclusionary behaviour
  • Disrespectful or aggressive conduct towards teachers, students or staff

Breaches of this Code of Conduct may result in:

  • A verbal or written warning
  • Suspension from classes or activities
  • Permanent exclusion from JT Dance Academy (without refund where applicable)

Complaints and Feedback Policy

Purpose

JT Dance Academy values open communication and aims to resolve all complaints fairly, promptly and respectfully. This policy outlines our process for receiving and addressing concerns from students, visitors and staff.

Scope

This policy applies to all JT Dance Academy staff, students, parents and visitors.

Our commitment

  • Everyone has the right to be heard and respected.
  • We will treat all complaints seriously and without retaliation.
  • We aim to resolve issues at the earliest possible stage.

How to provide feedback or make a complaint

  • Speak directly with a staff member or the Director.
  • Use the form on this page, or email your concern to jtdanceacademy1@gmail.com.
  • Written complaints will be acknowledged within 3 business days.

Complaints process

  1. Informal resolution: where possible, concerns will be resolved through direct discussion.
  2. Formal review: if unresolved, a written complaint is reviewed by the Director.
  3. Resolution: a written response is provided within 15 business days. If further time is required, the complainant will be notified.

Confidentiality

All complaints are handled confidentially. Information is only shared with those necessary to address the issue.

Appeals

If you are dissatisfied with the outcome, you may request a review by an external party nominated by the Director.

External options

If not satisfied with the internal process, you may contact:

  • Queensland Office of Fair Trading (for consumer-related issues)
  • Australian Human Rights Commission (discrimination or bullying)
  • Office of the Australian Information Commissioner (privacy breaches)
  • QLD Police or Department of Child Safety (child protection concerns)

Privacy and Confidentiality Policy

JT Dance Academy is committed to protecting the privacy and confidentiality of the personal information of our students, staff and stakeholders in accordance with the Privacy Act 1988 (Cth), including the Australian Privacy Principles (APPs).

1. Collection of personal information

We only collect personal information necessary for the delivery of our dance programs and associated activities. This may include names, contact details, emergency contact information, health details relevant to safe participation, and payment information.

2. How we collect information

Information is collected directly from you via enrolment forms, email correspondence, online platforms, or during studio activities. Where reasonably necessary, information may also be collected from third parties with your consent.

3. Use and disclosure of personal information

Personal information is used only for the purpose for which it was collected, including:

  • Managing enrolments and class participation
  • Communicating updates, events or promotions (with your consent)
  • Complying with legal and regulatory requirements

We do not disclose your personal information to third parties without your consent, unless required or authorised by law.

4. Data security

JT Dance Academy takes reasonable steps to protect personal information from misuse, interference, loss, and unauthorised access, modification or disclosure. Information is stored securely both physically and digitally.

5. Access and correction

You may request access to your personal information held by us and request corrections if the information is inaccurate, out-of-date or incomplete.

6. Anonymity and pseudonymity

Where possible, individuals may choose to remain anonymous or use a pseudonym when dealing with us, unless it is impracticable or unlawful to do so.

7. Marketing communications

We will only send you marketing communications with your prior consent and will provide an option to unsubscribe at any time.

8. Cross-border disclosure

JT Dance Academy does not routinely disclose personal information outside of Australia. If such disclosure becomes necessary, we will take reasonable steps to ensure the overseas recipient complies with the APPs.

9. Data breaches

In the unlikely event of a data breach involving personal information that is likely to result in serious harm, we will notify affected individuals and the Office of the Australian Information Commissioner (OAIC) as required under the Notifiable Data Breaches scheme.

10. Complaints and enquiries

If you have any questions or concerns about your privacy or wish to make a complaint, please contact JT Dance Academy at jtdanceacademy1@gmail.com. All complaints will be handled in accordance with our Complaints and Feedback Policy.

This policy will be reviewed periodically to reflect updates in our operations or legislative changes.
